Anniversary Stop

Vince and Marianne arrived into Herman at 5:27 PM. They were looking good but exhausted from the long stretch they just conquered. So story time.. Their boat name Anniversary Edition is named that because when they were going to do the MR 340 last year it was the year of their 25th wedding anniversary. The race got pushed back because the river was to high and they were unable to make the the rescheduled date. So this year they kept their same name. So as we were walking around the cute little town of Herman we stumbled upon a antique shop and Carol had a great idea. We got cheep wine glasses, a candle, and a vase and decided to have a anniversary "cruse" dinner! (pictured below) The other joke was that for their anniversary Vince was taking my mom on a "cruse" on the Missouri River...so as ground crew we thought we would make it as authentic as possible! They enjoyed that and both got back massages :) They took a longer break because they have another long leg before they make it to Klondike for the night. They will make a stop in Washington around 11:30 PM and then continue on. They left Herman at 7:11 PM and we packed up the car!

  2. The times posted in the official Mixed Tandem results are suspect. Boat 9494 is reported to have arrived in Jeff City at the same time as they arrived in Hermann. But wait, it gets better (or is it worse), Boat 710 is reported to have arrived in Hermann 2-3/4 hours before they arrived in Jeff City. My best guess is that Vince and Marianne are now about 87th overall and sixth in Mixed Tandem. They appear to be about 2.5 hours behind what appears to be the fifth place Mixed Tandem boat (number 0) and about 1.5 hours ahead of what I think is the seventh place boat (number 2503). Go Vince and Marianne!!!

  3. By the way, my count of the drop outs is now 106.

One of the posts on the Official Race Tracking site read as follows:

    "Hello,

"Can I get a time stamp added for boat #4200. The guys did good, but had to drop out due to heat issues. The check in time was 3:37pm in Lexington.

"One positive: this marks a few items off one of the paddlers bucket lists - canoeing in one of the top 100 adventure races and riding in an ambulance ride. All is good now!

"Thanks for the hard work and see you again next year"

It looks like Vince and Marianne will also get two things off their lists: 1. Canoeing in the MR340; and 2. Finishing the MR340. Sounds a little better than the other boat.

(By the way, all is well with the other boat member now.)

  5. Wish I could be at the finish to celebrate with you. I remember how exciting that was and how there were so many happy/exhausted people around. Ned said it was such an incredible moment to be paddling in and hear all the cheering and the crowd of people just for him. It was our 30th anniversary when he did the race. This could become a family tradition. Who's next....

  7. It was a lot of fun. I have to say it was my Bro in law Ned who through out the idea of a romantic dinner. We agreed and had fun making it happen.
